Most of you modern fans will class "real" hiphop as commercial acts such as Rick Ross, Drake, French Montana and all of the big name US artists that are puppets to the industry but a select few of you will know that the true essence of hip hop is in the underground scene.
Hip Hop is not just a genre of music, in fact its much more than that. In reality the true meaning of hip hop to me is not even necessarily a musical definition, i personally see it as more of a lifestyle and way of living. In today's scene, unless your clued up it can be hard to find some "Real" music among the masses of label controlled pretty boy "rappers" that seem to breed tenfold with every coming year.
Don't think that i am saying i don't listen to some of the big names in the commercial industry of hip hop but albums like "Still Recognise Real" are much more relevant to me than whatever album 2 Chains plans to drop. The Mongrelz collective consists of a trio of artists originating from Hastings, Uk and have been putting out truthful, conscious music for a number of years now.
This latest installment to their discography is by far one of my personal favourite albums to come from them thus far in their lengthy career. This album is the sequel to their 2009 debut release "Real Recognise Real" combining the old school, soul wrenching productions of London based Hip Hop producer Last Resort and the lyrical talent, wit and imagery of Neaality Gandhi, Don Ciotti, & Remacy.
I urge you to put down the Cheef Kief mixtape of which all tracks sound exactly the same and take a journey into the true meaning of Hip Hop with this wise trio of underrated audio illusionists. This album will take you on a trip back to the good old days with 11 solid tracks also featuring the likes of our artist Billy Boi alonside others.
Massive love to the whole Mongrelz family, we at Knowledge Is Power see and salute you!
