As the opening hi hats and atmospherics drop on the first track of this cd i can already tell that this release is going to be something different compared to your average uk hiphop album. The beat drops in followed by the proud but conscious voice of Legionnaires member and Dont Flop battle artist Lefty. One thing that is apparent from the very get go is that Lefty is a master of many flows from the laid back soulful flows to the venomous skippy tongue twisters, his lyricism only further complimenting his flow as he takes us on a journey through the gifted mind of a genius.
Into the second track and as another deep, chilled instrumental drops in i can't help but think that i own a small piece of history even if it is on the history of one talented artist that deserves to be recognized on a global scale. Unlike most hip hop artists in the uk right now, Lefty proves that he is a versatile, consciously aware individual that blows the stereotypical battle rapper image out of the water by coming with some thoughtful concepts and well written tracks.
One thing that is evident to me whilst listening to this cd is that we have here a very bright guy with a more than able brain in his head. You may fail to see the relevance of this comment but take a look at the urban music scene right now, i mean REALLY take a look. Whilst the country obsesses over a song about a "German Whip" and deems that the formula to become successful in the industry (Bragging about money, cars, women, reputation) there are true talents among us that have a positive, awakening message in their music that the general population would rather ignore than listen to.
As one of the biggest tracks on the cd drops in i cant help but think of the powerful movements Lefty could make if some of these major labels took a look at our home grown talent and put some time and faith into an artist that isnt trying to impress people with imagery and deceptive songwriting. The track in question is entitled "Casino Royale" for which you can view the video below, Lefty's anthemic vocals are met with an equally epic and attention drawing instrumental to leave you in an audible trance for 4 minutes.
